Construction Quality Control Specialist
Position Summary
The Quality Control Specialist will work closely with Field Operations, Design, and Project Management teams. The Specialist will assist the Quality Control Supervisor to ensure successful completion of projects and maintain Janotta & Herner’s high standards and efficient work practices on jobsites throughout Northern Ohio. This position requires a blend of technical knowledge and hands-on experience.
Essential Functions
- Conduct thorough inspections of construction sites to verify work quality and accuracy in accordance with design documents and specifications.
- Ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
- Perform quality control checks on materials and workmanship during construction activities.
- Identify and document any deviations, defects, or non-compliance issues.
- Collect and maintain data related to construction progress and compliance.
- Participate in construction progress meetings to provide updates on inspections and address concerns.
- Provide practical recommendations for fixing identified issues, and conduct follow-up inspections to ensure that identified issues have been resolved.
- Collaborate with construction supervisors and project managers to address any issues or concerns that arise during inspections.
- Coordinate with design, field staff, and project management teams as needed.
- Review construction drawings during the design process
- Assist with field personnel training sessions both in the field and in a classroom setting.
- Possess a working knowledge of safety standards and OSHA regulations.
- Strong attention to detail, previous experience in construction inspection and a thorough understanding of construction processes and materials across a range of trades including steel erection, roofing, siding, carpentry, earth work, masonry, and concrete.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions based on inspection findings.
- Strong analytical skills for assessing construction quality and proper selection of construction methods, materials, and regulations.
- Ability to read and understand construction drawings and construction specifications/manuals
- Effective communication skills with field and office personnel.
- Team player, able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with construction personnel, owners’ representatives, contractors, vendors and others on and off the job site.
- Working knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in Industrial/Commercial construction.
- High school diploma/GED at minimum, a degree in construction management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
Work Environment
The Quality Control Specialist’s time will be split between indoor and outdoor jobsite inspections and office work necessary to review drawings, complete reports, provide training, and assist other field operations personnel as needed.
Janotta & Herner maintains outdoor projects year-round, so occasional work in temperature and weather extremes is to be expected.
The work environment while inspecting a job site requires being alert and safety-conscious due to the nature of being involved in all phases of a construction project. This means you will encounter various potential hazards, including but not limited to heavy machinery, elevated work areas, walking across rough and broken ground, and ongoing construction activities.
The working hours are typically 6:00 AM to 3:30 PM Monday through Friday. Occasional off-shift hours may be necessary to achieve the goals of some projects. Weekend and Holiday work is infrequent but occasionally needed to meet the projects requirements.
