Safety Inspector

Position Summary:
This is an entry-level position that will assist our Safety Director in seeking to further reduce our already low number of accidents and injuries, and continue to improve our safety record.
The Safety Inspector requires active oversight of safety on all JHI Group construction projects, fabrication shops, and field support operations. This position focuses on assisting with the implementation of safety programs, conducting routine inspections, and ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations. The role emphasizes hazard identification, employee training support, and fostering a culture of safety awareness and continuous improvement.
Essential Functions:
- Support the development, communication, and enforcement of safety policies, procedures, and OSHA compliance across construction sites and manufacturing operations.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of jobsites, fabrication shops, and field operations to identify hazards, verify compliance, and ensure safe work practices by employees and subcontractors.
- Assist in incident investigations, track corrective actions, and maintain accurate safety documentation, reports, and inspection logs.
- Facilitate and participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, site-specific orientations, and training sessions to promote awareness and reinforce best practices.
- Collaborate with field, shop, and office personnel to address safety concerns, review inspection results, and support a positive safety culture.
- Provide administrative and technical support to the Safety Director and General Superintendent, including reporting, documentation review, and participation in safety committees and external safety council events.
- Address and report serious violations & non-compliance with JHI Groups Safety Policy immediately
- Report inspection results on a weekly basis to the Safety Director
- Promote a positive safety culture by engaging workers, supervisors, and management.
- Other duties as assigned
- 0-2 years experience as a Safety Inspector, Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety standards.
- OSHA 30 Hour- Construction Certification
- OSHA 10 Hour- Industrial Certification
- Safety Trained Supervisor- Construction (within the first 12 months)
- Working safety Knowledge (Underground Utility Locating, BWC Accident analysis, OSHA Recordkeeping, Trenching and Excavation, MEWP Trainer)
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Willingness to learn and grow within a safety-focused career path.
- Working knowledge of JHI Group safety standards and procedures
- Able to use Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
The Safety Inspector time will be split between indoor and outdoor jobsite inspections and office work as needed. Janotta & Herner maintains outdoor projects year-round, so occasional work in temperature and weather extremes is to be expected. Firelands Fabrication is a indoor fabrication shop with occupational hazards.
